Tornado hits cities in Rio Grande do Sul and leaves injured

Civil protection reports that the tornado occurred at 6:25 pm (local time) and was associated with a supercell, a type of storm with a rotating updraft.

Farmer Renan Bayer, resident of Giruá, in the northwest of Rio Grande do Sul, described that he observed the tornado and that, despite not being affected, he received reports of damage caused by the phenomenon, with his neighbor's warehouses not being able to withstand the force of the winds.

"He took it from a neighbor of mine, in his warehouses there, who ripped everything out," he said, adding: "It looked like something out of a movie, something we would never see in our lives."

The resident also classified the experience as “shocking”.

In total, at least seven injuries were reported. According to Sete de Setembro Civil Protection, three people were injured and taken to hospital, with two homes completely destroyed.

In Giruá, the tornado mainly hit the communities of Rincão dos Coimbras, Rincão dos Mellos, Rincão dos Ribeiros, Amaral and Melgarejo, where homes suffered severe damage, four people were injured and numerous trees fell.

In Senador Salgado Filho, at least 50 people were affected and 12 houses were affected, with no roof left, with trees falling and the power grid falling.
