SÃO PAULO, SP (UOL/FOLHAPRESS) - A small plane crashed yesterday shortly after taking off from an airport in Arizona, in the United States, and killed the pilot, the aircraft's only occupant.

The accident occurred around 7:50 pm (local time), near Chandler Municipal Airport, located about 32 km southeast of downtown Phoenix, the capital of Arizona. The aircraft crashed near the intersection of McQueen and Queen Creek avenues, ABC News reported.

Emergency teams were called after a call to the United States emergency services. Firefighters worked with the airport control tower to confirm the location of the aircraft.

The pilot was the only person on board and died at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released by authorities.

The aircraft was a Piper PA-28-180 and crashed shortly after taking off from the airport. The information was released by the United States Federal Aviation Administration, according to Fox 10 Phoenix.

Images taken after the accident show the plane damaged by fire in an area close to the airport. There is no information about people affected or damage outside the aircraft.

The cause of the fall is still unknown. The United States National Transportation Safety Board took over the investigation, with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Investigators began gathering information about the pilot, the aircraft and the conditions under which the flight took place. Air traffic control audio, radar data, weather conditions, witness statements, videos, maintenance records and the pilot's flight history will be analyzed, according to Arizona's Family, a Phoenix broadcasting group.

Witnesses and people who have images of the accident were advised to contact the authorities. After documenting the location, the aircraft will be taken to a secure facility, where it will undergo further analysis.

The Fire Department coordinates actions with the airport administration and the Chandler police. Authorities are still working to clarify the circumstances of the crash.
