Brazil records more than 1.8 million work accidents since 2023

The numbers are based on data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (Sinam), of the Ministry of Health.

According to Anamt, these results give an idea of the impact that accidents have on the population's health, Social Security and the demands for public and private assistance services.

The majority of recorded accidents (74.7%) involved men. There were 1,376,463 notifications. Women accounted for 466,921 records (25.3%). In 220 cases, sex was ignored.

"The highest concentration occurred among people aged 20 to 49. The group aged 20 to 34 gathered 783,598 notifications, while workers aged 35 to 49 accounted for 610,441. Together, these two age groups concentrated 1,394,039 cases, corresponding to 75.6% of the records", detailed the association.

Regions

With a total of 1,338,895 occurrences, the South and Southeast regions accounted for 72.6% of work accident notifications recorded during the survey period.

The Southeast accounted for 788,518 notifications (42.8%), while the South registered 550,377 cases (29.9%). Next comes the Northeast (223,250 occurrences), followed by the Central-West (175,366) and the North (106,093).

States

São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Minas Gerais and Santa Catarina account for 67% of all notifications in the country, according to the entity that operates in the field of occupational medicine.

In São Paulo alone there were 533,557 records, which puts the state at the forefront of this ranking of accidents at work, in terms of absolute number of notifications.

In second place is Rio Grande do Sul, with 245,641 cases, followed by Paraná (197,011); Minas Gerais (152,192); and Santa Catarina (107,725).

“In absolute terms, Piauí is at the bottom of the survey, with 11,820 records of work accidents; Amazonas, with 9,640 cases; Acre, with 8,718; Sergipe, with 5,252, and Amapá, 3,521”, detailed the association.

The president of Anamt, Francisco Cortes Fernandes, explains that this data helps in planning initiatives that aim to combat “risks that can compromise the lives, health and well-being of workers and their families”.
