The Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, reinforced this Friday, 17th, in São Paulo, that the consolidation of the Brazilian economy in recent months gives the government the ability to protect the population from external shocks. As an example, he cited the recent performance in the fuel market, with the temporary removal of diesel taxation for two months and an agreement with the States to share costs related to imports and ICMS, a measure that, according to him, also had a limited duration to avoid greater burden on state governments.

Durigan made this and other statements during a press conference he called to, more specifically, address the work that the Brazilian government has been carrying out to try to review the tariff and mitigate part of its effect on Brazilian companies. In addition to the North American tariffs, the minister mentioned that the Treasury monitors, in the short term, the effects of the war involving Iran and its possible consequences for the Brazilian economy. He stated that, given the country's "resilience", the government will be able to provide measures considered necessary to mitigate impacts.
The minister also took advantage of the press conference to say that the Desenrola program has shown positive results, stating that a stronger economy tends to translate into benefits for Brazilian families.
"Lack of rationality and reasonableness in US tariffs", said Durigan, recalling that Brazil has a deficit in its trade balance with the United States. For the minister, what happened was a kind of general punishment to Brazil with US tariffs. "But as Brazil is right about US tariffs, it cannot lower its head. We have made a series of efforts to reverse tariffs and we are on a good path to protect companies from tariffs", reiterated the minister.
When saying that the US participation in the Brazilian trade balance has decreased, Durigan explained that a reversal of tariffs would be good not only for Brazil, but also for the North American economy.
The fact, according to the minister, is that the commercial arguments used by the USA to justify the tariff are false. He said that he has a series of trips to participate in international forums and that he will take Brazil's dissatisfaction with the tariffs applied by the USA to these events.
