SÃO PAULO, SP (UOL/FOLHAPRESS) - Memphis Depay took the lead in negotiations regarding his own future at Corinthians.

The report found that the striker asked his staff to hold possible conversations with other clubs that had recently carried out surveys with the player's team. The advice was to wait for an outcome in the negotiations with Corinthians before moving forward with any other possibility.

Memphis' contract with Corinthians ends on July 31st. Despite not having received official proposals yet, clubs in Mexico, the Middle East and Saudi Arabia are monitoring the striker's situation and evaluating making offers if the renewal does not happen.

In recent days, Memphis spoke to people close to him and reinforced his desire to stay in Brazil. The player values ??the relationships he built in the country and the identification created with Corinthians.

The absence of proposals considered attractive is also seen by the club as an asset for the Dutchman's stay. As UOL published this Tuesday (21), Corinthians understands that, so far, no option has appeared on the market that shines in the attacker's eyes.

PROPOSAL HAS NOT YET BEEN ANSWERED

Memphis received a renewal proposal from Corinthians before playing in the World Cup. The offer provides for a significant reduction in the current contract values.

The focus on the World Cup, however, meant that the player left conversations in the background and did not respond to the club's contact at that time.

After Holland's early elimination, still in the second phase, Memphis chose to take a few days off. The striker also used the period to recover mentally after the competition.

In the match against Morocco, which declared the Dutch eliminated, Memphis did not even leave the bench. People close to the player reported that he understood the loss of space among the starters, mainly due to the rise of other offensive options, such as Brobbey, but was disappointed at not having been used.

SELECTION CONTINUES IN PLANS

Despite the frustration at the World Cup, Memphis does not consider its cycle in the Dutch national team to be over. The striker aims to compete in the 2028 Euro Cup, which will be held in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The report found that the player recently spoke with directors of the Dutch Federation about the possibility of joining the team's next international cycle.

Furthermore, younger athletes on the Dutch squad, like Summerville, see Memphis as a reference and often seek him out even to discuss personal issues. The Dutch Federation intends to explore this leadership role for the striker in the coming years.

PREMANENCE IS STILL DIFFICULT

Even with Memphis' desire to remain at Corinthians, the striker's continuity at the club is still considered difficult. One of the main obstacles is the debt of around R$45 million that Corinthians owes the player.

People close to president Osmar Stábile argue that leaving Memphis is the best path for Corinthians at this time. Members of the football and marketing departments are working on alternatives to make it possible for the Dutchman to stay without further compromising the club's cash flow.
