Internal Affairs arrests PM accused in case of death of medical student in São Paulo

The arrest was ordered by judge Luiza Torggler Silva, from the 4th Jury Court. On Saturday (1st), judge Euvaldo Chaib denied a request for habeas corpus requested by the defense.

The judge states that Prado, during the course of the criminal proceedings and while subject to the precautionary measures established by the Court, was involved in an incident of threat and bodily harm against his wife, in the context of domestic and family violence, which is under investigation.

In a message, lawyer João Carlos Campanini, who defends the two military police officers, said that "this is half information sent by the prosecution's assistance to the case with a view to revenge, not justice."

"This alleged accusation of domestic violence has already been filed and did not even have a protective measure under the Maria da Penha Law. We have already informed the court of the assistants' lie and asked for the immediate revocation of the arrest. We are awaiting a decision," he added.

"In effect, the crime narrated in the complaint is considered extremely serious, so custody is essential to protect public order", he writes in the decision.

According to the police report, Prado was at the Metropolitan Area 2 Police Command headquarters, in Campo Belo, south zone. He told two Internal Affairs Police that he was aware of the arrest warrant and offered no resistance.

After the usual communication at the 27th DP (Campo Belo), he was taken to the Romão Gomes Prison, in the north zone.

The person responsible for the shooting, PM Guilherme Augusto Macedo, responds to the case in freedom. PM document recommends his expulsion. The report is analyzed by the General Command of the Military Police.

REMEMBER THE CASE

The student and the two police officers crossed paths in the early hours of November 20, 2024. He was walking along Avenida Conselheiro Rodrigues Alves towards the hostel where a young woman with whom he had a relationship was staying.

Macedo and Prado, who were in a vehicle, stopped Marco Aurélio, who slapped the rear view mirror. Macedo then got down and started chasing him. The student ran to the hotel. There, cornered at a gate, he was shot in the stomach by a soldier.

Marco Aurélio was taken to Ipiranga Hospital, in the south zone, about 6 kilometers away, even though he was shot on a street with a medical unit and several others nearby. Ipiranga Hospital, according to later reports, did not have the resources to receive the student at that time. The emergency room was overcrowded and the tomography machine was inoperative.
