The employees also decided to file requests with the City Hall and the Jacareí City Council to discuss alternatives that could preserve jobs. We scheduled this meeting to discuss the maintenance of jobs after the company announced that it will close the Jacareí plant. Today we have a meeting at 2pm with the company and tomorrow we will hold a new meeting at the same time", said the director of the Metalworkers Union, Nilson Ferreira. The announcement of the unit's closure was communicated to the union last Friday (17). The entity states that the decision was taken by the company without prior negotiation and defends the opening of dialogue to avoid layoffs. In a statement, Parker Hannifin confirmed that it is in the process of discontinuing activities at the Jacareí unit as part of a reorganization of operations in Brazil. The company reported that workers continue with the employment contracts, salaries, benefits and other rights preserved during the transition. Parker also stated that it maintains dialogue with the union and confirmed that the meeting between the parties will be held this Monday afternoon (20). According to the financial statement released by the union, Parker Hannifin recorded record global sales of US$5.5 billion between January and March this year, in addition to adjusted net profit of US$1 billion.
