For immunization, young people must bring the Secom Vaccination Booklet. The most effective and safe measure of prevention against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the vaccine. Health Surveillance, from the Rio das Ostras Health Department, informs that the Campaign, which expands immunization to adolescents aged 15 to 19, has been extended until December. Vaccination aimed at people aged 9 to 14 is already on the Calendar. Young people who have not been immunized against HPV can also go to the Municipality's health units to get the vaccine, taking their Vaccination Card. This strategy seeks to rescue people who did not receive their dose at the recommended age. With this strategy of expanding the public, adolescents and young people who missed the opportunity to be vaccinated between the ages of 9 and 14 can guarantee their individual protection and contribute to reducing the circulation of the virus among the population. PREVENTION - Vaccination against HPV is important to avoid infections that can lead to different types of cancer (such as those of the cervix, vulva, penis, throat and neck) and genital warts. Immunization is the most effective way of preventing infections caused by the virus and its consequences, including cervical cancer, which is one of the main causes of death in women. The vaccine is safe and prevents four types of HPV (types 6, 11, 16 and 18). Vaccination not only protects those who are immunized, but also helps reduce the transmission of the virus to other people. Efficacy is best when the vaccine is administered before sexual activity begins, but it can also be beneficial for people who have already had contact with the virus. HPV – HPV infection can occur through skin-to-skin contact, especially during sexual intercourse with vaginal and/or anal penetration. However, transmission can also occur during oral sex, as well as any contact with the genital region, including hands. The virus cannot be transmitted through contact with objects, such as towels and toilet seats. See below the list of the Municipality's vaccination units and the immunization days and times.
