Heineken® initiatives in Maranhão combine sustainability, tourism and regeneration of urban spaces. Disclosure Maranhão is home to some of the most emblematic destinations in Brazil. Between the Historic Center of São Luís, recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and Lençóis Maranhenses, recently declared a Natural Heritage Site, the state has established itself as a reference in tourism and environmental wealth. At the same time, the growth of tourist activity and the appreciation of urban spaces have increased the importance of initiatives aimed at environmental preservation and the responsible use of these territories. In a state where nature, culture and development go hand in hand, projects that contribute to the regeneration of spaces are gaining more and more relevance. In this context, Heineken® has been expanding its presence in the region, connecting initiatives aimed at urban regeneration, circularity and responsible consumption, thus reinforcing its operations in important territories for the culture, economy and tourism of Maranhão. This relationship between product and sustainability is part of the way Heineken® builds its presence in Brazil. In addition to using green energy* in its production process, the brand develops projects through the Green Your City platform. Created in 2021, the initiative was born with the purpose of giving new meaning to experiences and urban spaces through music and culture, expanding the brand's cultural reach without giving up its sustainable signature and concrete goals that shape tomorrow, such as circularity, microforests, responsible consumption and green energy itself*. The company's operations in the country also help to scale the scale of these initiatives. With 13 breweries in operation in Brazil and the opening of a unit in Passos (MG) in 2025, the HEINEKEN Group reaffirms its growth strategy combined with investments in innovation and sustainability. In Maranhão, this commitment will gain new chapters in 2026. São Luís receives its first Heineken® urban microforest. The first of these initiatives took place in São Luís, which received the first Heineken® urban microforest in the state. It is part of the Green Your City platform and was carried out in partnership with the Municipal Environment Secretariat (Semmam) of São Luís City Hall. Planting a microforest with a thousand native species in Maranhão is part of a project to reduce heat islands and recover urban areas. Disclosure Inspired by the Floresta de Bolso Methodology, developed by botanist and landscaper Ricardo Cardim, the project seeks to regenerate urban areas through the planting of native species. With a thousand species from the local biome, the expected benefits range from increasing local biodiversity to reducing heat islands and improving water infiltration into the soil. The planting took place on June 16th and symbolizes the brand's evolution in its goal of reaching 19 Brazilian capitals with microforests by 2030 and the approach of yet another sustainability initiative in the Maranhão territory. Atins becomes part of the brand's circularity project In addition to the actions in São Luís, Heineken® also expands its operations in Atins, one of the best-known tourist destinations in Maranhão, gateway to the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. Since the beginning of 2026, Atins has been receiving the Vidrado project, an initiative developed in partnership with the startup SOLOS to encourage the recycling of glass packaging in regions with high tourist circulation. In its new phase, the project arrives in Maranhão with a focus on mobilizing residents, tourists and commercial establishments to correctly dispose of waste. The project integrates selective collection, installation of Voluntary Delivery Points (PEVs) and continuous environmental education actions, strengthening the culture of circularity in one of the best-known destinations in the state. The choice of Atins follows the growth of tourism in the region and reinforces the proposal to promote a more responsible occupation of the territories. The expectation is to collect around 50 tons of glass and reinsert this material into the production chain through HEINEKEN Spin, the company's impact business ecosystem that has recycling hubs for glass processing with the aim of supporting regions with little or no reverse logistics infrastructure. Sustainability as part of the brand identity The relationship between sustainability and quality is also part of the credentials that define the identity of Heineken®, which often references green energy* as its fifth ingredient. This perception is reflected in market studies. According to Kantar Insights do Brasil, Heineken® is the most sustainable beer brand**, a result that is in line with the company's ambition to transform this positioning into concrete initiatives. Produced with pure malt and maintaining the same recipe for over 150 years, the beer uses exclusive Yeast A and horizontal fermentation tanks, characteristics responsible for the consistency and flavor that have become trademarks of the drink. Combining tradition, consistency and future-oriented initiatives, the brand, which already has its main market in the world in Brazil, is growing in Maranhão, connecting product, experience and sustainability for the future of cities.
