Firjan Senai Petrópolis expands Baking School and doubles professional training capacity

During the reopening ceremony, the president of Firjan, Luiz Césio Caetano, highlighted that the investment follows the region's economic growth and the demand for qualified professionals. According to him, the strengthening of tourism and the accommodation network drives the need for trained workers for the food and related services segments. The expansion of the school's capacity, according to the director, contributes to the development of the production chain, supports local companies and stimulates the generation of opportunities. Data from Firjan indicate that the Mountain Region has the largest number of bakery companies in the state in relation to the population, with seven establishments for every 10 thousand inhabitants, above the state average of four per 10 thousand inhabitants. Petrópolis leads the regional ranking with 205 companies in the sector, followed by Nova Friburgo, with 145, and Teresópolis, with 115. For the president of the Union of Bakery and Confectionery Industries of Petrópolis (Sindpães), Roberto Badro, the reopening represents an advance for a segment that has a strong presence in the city's history, culture and economy. He highlighted that modernization reinforces the commitment to professional qualification and the development of the sector. Opened in 2008, the Firjan SENAI Petrópolis Baking and Confectionery School now has a renewed structure to meet the needs of an expanding market. The president of Firjan Serrana, Julio Talon, stated that Petrópolis and neighboring municipalities have great potential for growth in the activity, benefiting from the offer of training and professional development courses. The unit offers training in the areas of Baker, Master Baker, Confectioner, Pizza Maker, Pastry Baker, Biscuit Making, Panettone, Bakery Assistant, Puff Pastry and Natural Fermented Bread, in addition to other improvement courses. The executive director of Firjan SENAI SESI, Alexandre dos Reis, highlighted that the delivery of the new structure reinforces the institution's commitment to excellence in professional education and expands the conditions to meet the demands of the local job market. He also highlighted that the Petrópolis unit has one of the most comprehensive course portfolios in the network in the state. In the last 12 months, Firjan SENAI Petrópolis offered 56 course titles distributed across 16 areas of knowledge. In 2025, the unit registered more than 3,300 enrollments, consolidating itself as a reference in professional and technological education in the Mountain Region. According to the coordinator of Professional Education at Firjan SENAI Petrópolis, Danilo Fagundes, the new structure will allow us to expand the offering of training and further diversify the portfolio, including personalized courses developed to meet specific market demands.
