The death was confirmed by the team that managed the artist's career. In a statement, the family said they were deeply shaken and asked for privacy during their period of mourning.

According to Irish police, the accident occurred shortly before 4:30 am, in the Lucan district, in the west of the capital. Hansard was driving the motorcycle when he suffered the collision, which did not involve other vehicles. He received treatment from emergency teams, but died at the scene. The circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the authorities.

Hansard gained prominence as the vocalist and guitarist of the band The Frames, founded in Dublin in 1990. The group became one of the main names in Irish alternative rock and released six studio albums, including “Burn the Maps”, which reached the top of the country's charts.

In addition to music, the artist built a career in cinema. In 1991, he played guitarist Outspan Foster in the film “The Commitments”, a production about a soul band formed in Dublin.

International recognition came with “Once”, released in 2007. Hansard starred in the feature film alongside Czech singer and pianist Markéta Irglová and also participated in composing the soundtrack.

The following year, the two received the Oscar for Best Original Song for “Falling Slowly”. The film's success also led to a stage adaptation, which won eight Tony Awards in 2012.

Hansard also formed the duo The Swell Season with Irglová and developed a solo career. The album “Didn’t He Ramble” received a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album in 2016

The musician was also known for his involvement in social initiatives. For years, he led charity performances held on Christmas Eve in Dublin to raise funds for homeless people.

Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin mourned the death and highlighted Hansard's contribution to the country's culture over several decades.
