Estúdio de Justin Baldoni é condenado a pagar indenização ao New York Times

Two years ago, shortly after the release of the film "That's How It Ends," an adaptation of Colleen Hoover's book, Baldoni and Lively became involved in a legal dispute. The newspaper stood out when it published documents about the actress' accusations of sexual harassment against the actor and director.

At the time, Baldoni filed a lawsuit against The New York Times, citing defamation and invasion of privacy, seeking damages of US$250 million. The case ended up being archived and the vehicle then asked for compensation of US$150,000 to cover defense costs in the case.

"We are very pleased with the court's decision. The anti-SLAPP law was created precisely to combat this type of baseless lawsuit filed with the aim of silencing the press," said a spokesperson for the newspaper. American legislation, based on freedom of expression, prevents people from using legal processes to silence critical voices.

Ultimately, the dispute between Lively and Baldoni was resolved in May, in an agreement between the two, after more than a year of controversy.

At the beginning of April, the United States Court had already rejected 10 of the 13 accusations made by the actress, including sexual harassment, defamation and conspiracy. Only points linked to breach of contract and retaliation remained, which stopped moving forward with the signed agreement.
