The death of sports journalist Luigi Esposito, 53, caused great repercussions in Italy. Known professionally as Luca, he built a career mainly linked to covering football in the Salerno region and the lower divisions of the Italian Championship.

Although he worked at an environmental agency, Esposito gained notoriety for his sports journalism. Over more than a decade, he worked as a columnist, commentator and editor, in addition to participating in broadcasts of Série C matches.

The journalist worked for outlets such as the newspaper La Città di Salerno and the broadcaster Ottochannel. He also ran the portal Tuttosalernitana.com, dedicated to covering Salernitana and local football.

On social media, where he had more than 15 thousand followers, he published news, analyzes and opinions about the sport. After confirming his death, colleagues, readers and fans left farewell messages and highlighted his contribution to regional journalism.

According to information released by the Italian press, Esposito's body was found on Saturday (18), in an open area in the municipality of Eboli, in the Salerno region.

Authorities were initially called because of a fire at the location. During the treatment, they found the journalist charred and with injuries caused by gunshots.

The main line of investigation points out that Esposito had been shot before the body was set on fire. The suspicion is that the fire was used to try to make it difficult to identify the victim and hide traces of the crime.

The journalist's car was found abandoned nearby. The area where the body was found is far from Esposito's residence.

The case remains under investigation, and so far no information has been released about possible suspects or the motivation for the murder. Esposito was not married and had no children.
