OpenAI's AI target wants "unprecedented response" to case

According to Delangue, the action would have been carried out autonomously, without the direct control of OpenAI. The executive classified the case as an unprecedented episode and defended the adoption of exceptional measures to investigate what happened and prevent new incidents.

Before the meeting, the businessman published a photograph on the social network X inside a plane, during a trip to San Francisco, in the United States. In the message, he stated that he intended to personally discuss the attack with OpenAI representatives.

After the conversation, Delangue declared that he demanded a stance of “radical transparency” from the company. He stated that records of the activities of the agents involved should be made available for analysis by the scientific community.

“We will share the traces of the agents who went out of control so that the entire research community can study what happened,” he wrote.

The CEO of Hugging Face also called for more investment in tools capable of protecting companies and digital platforms against threats driven by artificial intelligence systems.

As part of the response to the episode, Delangue proposed that OpenAI provide US$100 million in computing capacity to support researchers and developers linked to Hugging Face in creating advanced cyber defense mechanisms.

According to the executive, the project should use open and closed models to develop technologies capable of identifying, containing and preventing automated attacks.

“The first cyberattack carried out by an autonomous agent is an unprecedented event and deserves an unprecedented response,” said Delangue.

Following Clem Delangue's statements, the website TechCrunch reached out to OpenAI for more information about the content of the meeting. In response, a company spokesperson directed the publication to a note published on X, in which the company classified the episode as an “unprecedented incident”.

In the statement, OpenAI stated that it was aware of the doubts and speculative information that began to circulate about the case involving Hugging Face.

"We recognize that there are many questions and speculative details circulating regarding the Hugging Face incident. This is an unprecedented episode and we consider it represents an important moment for the security of artificial intelligence," the company stated.

OpenAI also informed that it is carrying out a detailed investigation into the incident, with the support of external consultants. The expectation is that a technical report with the conclusions of the analysis will be released in the coming weeks
