Keiko takes office in Peru and talks about using the Armed Forces to fight crime

"We will recover every neighborhood, every road, every public space for Peruvian families," said the politician in the National Congress, where her party, Força Popular, has a majority in both Houses.

"We will use all the tools that the Constitution makes available to the government. During states of emergency, the Armed Forces will temporarily assume leadership of security operations and internal control", he stated, to applause from his supporters.

The statement came after a harsh diagnosis of the country's situation, which she classified as catastrophic, despite the dominance of her party in the nation's various institutions in the last decade, marked by the instability that led nine politicians to the Presidency.

Before her speech, members of the opposition, including Together for Peru, the party of Roberto Sánchez, who was defeated in the June elections, left the plenary while supporters applauded the now president.

Keiko's inauguration marks the return of Fujimorism amid a right-wing wave in South America. Many of the exponents of the trend were present at Keiko's ceremony, such as Daniel Noboa (Ecuador), Santiago Peña (Paraguay), Javier Milei (Argentina), José Antonio Kast (Chile) and Rodrigo Paz (Bolivia).

The government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is represented by Chancellor Mauro Vieira. Uruguay, one of the only countries governed by the left alongside Brazil in the region, sent its president, Yamandú Orsi.
