Iran attacks two US military bases, destroys three jets and leaves dead

Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it attacked US bases in Jordan and Kuwait. In a statement, the group claimed to have completely destroyed three F-35 jets, in addition to damaging three other aircraft, which were parked at the Azraq air base, in Jordan.

Without citing numbers, the Revolutionary Guard spoke of "several deaths". "Strikes with multiple ballistic missiles caused severe damage to aircraft and left several officers, as well as enemy technical and maintenance personnel dead," the statement said.

The attack was in response to US bombings, the Islamist group said. Yesterday, Washington resumed attacks on Iranian territory and killed at least three members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

Destroyed jets are ultra-modern military aircraft. These aircraft have a high price and cost around R$511 million each unit. So far, the US has not commented on this attack.

Amid increased hostilities in the Middle East, Iran is also expected to reinforce its air defense system. Tehran is expected to receive portable anti-aircraft defense systems (MANPADS) supplied by China in the coming weeks, according to the Reuters news agency.

The equipment is capable of bringing down aircraft flying at low altitude, such as helicopters, drones and some planes during takeoffs and landings. According to Reuters, deliveries began to be negotiated after the ceasefire with Israel and part of the payment will be made with shipments of Iranian oil to Beijing.

The arrival of the systems could strengthen the protection of Iranian military and nuclear facilities, which have been the target of Israeli and American attacks in recent months. Analysts estimate that the reinforcement also increases the cost of any new air operations against the country.
