Hypertension is often called a “silent disease” because, in most cases, it causes no symptoms. Still, some signs may appear and serve as a warning so that blood pressure is investigated before complications occur.

In a video published on TikTok, the doctor known as Anpdamo highlighted symptoms that may indicate high blood pressure and which often end up being ignored.

Signs that may indicate hypertensionHeadache upon waking up

According to the doctor, persistent headaches in the morning deserve attention.

“It's not just any headache, but those that appear frequently upon waking up can be a warning sign and should not be ignored,” he explained.

Blurred vision or bright spots

Changes in vision may also be related to increased blood pressure.

“The eyes have very small blood vessels that are sensitive to changes in pressure,” he said.

Shortness of breath

If simple activities, such as climbing a few flights of stairs, start to cause more tiredness than usual, it is worth seeking medical evaluation.

Frequent nosebleeds

Although an isolated episode generally does not represent seriousness, repeated bleeding, especially when accompanied by other symptoms, may indicate that something is not going well.

Anxiety or feeling restless

Another symptom mentioned by the specialist is a constant feeling of restlessness or anxiety without an apparent cause.

“Many patients just report that they feel something strange, but cannot explain exactly what it is,” he said.

Experts reinforce that these signs, alone, do not confirm the diagnosis of hypertension, but justify measuring blood pressure and a medical evaluation.

What to avoid when waking up if you have high blood pressure

Cardiologist Tariqshah Syed explained, in an interview with Parade magazine, that people with hypertension should avoid getting out of bed abruptly, especially if they use medication to control their blood pressure.

The recommendation is to sit on the edge of the bed for a minute or two before standing.

“This helps prevent dizziness, feelings of fainting and falls caused by a temporary reduction in blood pressure,” he explained.

According to the expert, blood pressure tends to increase naturally in the first hours of the day due to circadian rhythms, greater nervous system activity and hormonal changes.

This physiological increase can increase stress on the heart and increase the risk of arrhythmias and other cardiovascular events in predisposed people.

In addition to getting up slowly, the cardiologist recommends drinking water first thing in the morning, taking prescribed medications correctly and leaving more intense physical activities until later. In the early hours of the day, the ideal is to opt for light movements and stretching.

Five foods that should not be eaten raw

Cake batter, unpasteurized milk, ground meat, dried beans and some mushrooms may contain bacteria, toxins or compounds that are harmful to your health. Experts recommend proper cooking or pasteurization before consumption
