Average prices for hydrous ethanol fell in 18 states, rose in five and in the Federal District and remained stable in another three last week. The data are from the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), compiled by AE-Taxas.

At stations surveyed by ANP across the country, the average price of ethanol fell 0.50%, going from R$4.02 to R$4 per liter. In São Paulo, the main producing and consuming state, in addition to having the largest number of evaluated stations, the value fell 0.80%, from R$3.73 to R$3.70 per liter.

The biggest percentage increase was recorded in the Federal District, where a liter of ethanol increased 8.88%, to R$4.17. The biggest drop occurred in Rio Grande do Norte, with a drop of 2.78%, to R$5.24 per liter. Prices remained stable in Paraíba, Roraima and Rondônia.

The lowest value found at a gas station was R$2.80 per liter, in São Paulo. The highest price, R$6.59, was recorded in Pernambuco. Among the state averages, São Paulo had the lowest value, at R$3.70, while Amapá had the highest, at R$5.81 per liter.

Competitiveness

Last week, ethanol was more competitive compared to gasoline in ten states and the Federal District. In the national average of the stations surveyed, biofuel presented a parity of 60.98% compared to gasoline, a percentage considered favorable. The data refers to the period from July 26th to August 1st.

The ratio was 69.82% in Acre; 68.67% in Amazonas; 67.53% in Bahia; 63.66% in the Federal District; 63.17% in Goiás; 55% in Mato Grosso; 60.50% in Mato Grosso do Sul; 64.53% in Minas Gerais; 62.87% in Paraná; 68.87% in Santa Catarina; and 57.90% in São Paulo.

Industry executives state that ethanol can be advantageous even when the parity exceeds 70%, depending on the vehicle model. According to the most used methodology, however, biofuel is considered economically more attractive when its price corresponds to up to 70% of the value of gasoline.

Public competitions remain scheduled during the election period

Even in an election year, public competitions can be held normally, although there are restrictions on nominations during the campaign period. By the end of 2026, two competitions have already published a notice and another five have a defined organizing committee
