English newspaper lists 50 historical cavadinhas and mentions Marta, Ceni, Djalminha and Pato

The list was made to remember a penalty taken in the 1976 Euro Cup final. On that occasion, Antonin Panenka scored a penalty in the penalty shootout against the then world champion West Germany, led by goalkeeper Sepp Maier, which gave the title to the then Czechoslovakia.

The player ended up becoming synonymous with cavadinha for Europeans - the movement is called Panenka penalty.

The list drawn up by the British daily includes both calls that were successful and those that fans prefer to forget. Examples: that of Zidane in the 2006 World Cup final, that of Maradona in training at Napoli -when the goalkeeper went after the player-, that of Loco Abreu for Uruguay in the 2010 World Cup and even that of striker Gary Lineker against Brazil, in 1992, when he got the worst of goalkeeper Carlos.

Many Brazilians are on the list.

Marta, the greatest player in history, appears twice. In 2022, for Brazil, when he scored in the friendly against France. In 2025, for Orlando Pride, he took two penalties in a row. The first hit the post, but the referee ordered it back for invasion. In the second, he made a dig, the ball hit the crossbar and went in.

Djalminha is also mentioned. Still playing for Guarani, in 1995, he scored a dig against Internacional. Until then it could have been just one more, but the attacking midfielder took a risk on the penalty against Argentine Goycoechea, known basically for defending penalties.

In 2025, Tiaguinho will also decide to make fun of the Brazilian under-17 team's penalty shootout against Paraguay. The number 8 exchanged provocations with the goalkeeper and made a low dig, in the middle of the goal. And it worked.

Goalkeeper Rogério Ceni was also on the list due to the penalty shootout against Corinthians, in the semi-final of the 2013 Paulista Championship. São Paulo's number 1 was the first to take the shot and shot weakly almost in the middle of the goal, but Cássio was unable to save. In the end, however, the black and white team came out on top.
