Leite confirmed the separation and stated that the decision was taken by mutual agreement. "It's true that Thalis and I decided, maturely and by mutual agreement, to follow different paths", he said in an interview with Zero Hora. According to the newspaper, the two have been separated for about a month, and Bolzan has already left Piratini Palace, the governor's official residence, where he had lived since the formalization of the stable union.
Leite also asked for discretion regarding the ex-couple's personal life. "It was a decision made with a lot of dialogue, respect and affection for the history we lived together. We continue to preserve our affection and admiration for each other", he declared. The governor spoke for the first time publicly about his sexuality in 2021, in an interview with Globo's Conversa com Bial program, when he stated that he was "a gay governor" and assumed his relationship with Thalis.
At the inauguration ceremony for the current term, in January 2023, Leite made a public statement to his partner. At that time, Thalis still lived in São Paulo. Later, he moved to Porto Alegre, where he switched from working in pediatrics to endocrinology and opened a practice.
During the 2022 election campaign, the relationship also entered the political debate. The then candidate Onyx Lorenzoni (PL) stated that the State needed "a real first lady", a statement that caused negative repercussions and ended up being exploited during the dispute won by Leite.
