Chris Anne Affleck, mother of actors Ben and Casey Affleck, died on June 2 at age 83, just two days after fulfilling what friends and family described as her greatest wish since being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

The teacher discovered the disease in December last year and, according to doctors, she had around six months to live. Despite the delicate situation, she managed to attend her grandson Atticus' graduation ceremony, held on May 31, 2026.

“Her greatest wish after her diagnosis was to live long enough to see her grandson Atticus graduate from high school,” says the obituary published by The Boston Globe. “She fulfilled this wish by participating in the ceremony alongside her family on May 31, 2026. She died peacefully, in her sleep, two days later.”

According to the death certificate, Chris suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest while visiting his son Ben Affleck's home in Los Angeles. The document also points to pancreatic adenocarcinoma, the most common and aggressive form of pancreatic cancer, as one of the factors that contributed to death.

The obituary also highlights that her five grandchildren were the teacher's greatest joy in the last two decades of her life. According to the text, she was proud of her family's achievements and admired when young people questioned authorities and defended their ideas intelligently.

Chris Anne Affleck is survived by her children Ben and Casey Affleck, as well as her grandchildren Atticus and Indiana, Casey's children, and Violet, Fin and Sam, Ben's children.
