Anvisa determines the seizure of a batch of counterfeit Mounjaro

Units identified with the combination must be seized and cannot be distributed, sold or used. So far there is no evidence that other batches of the medicine have been falsified.

The guideline is that consumers only purchase medicines from regulated establishments and check the information on the packaging before use. If counterfeiting is suspected, the product must not be used and the case must be reported to the health authorities.

"In case of identification of drug units suspected of being counterfeit, the population and healthcare professionals should not use the product and should contact the company holding the registration to verify its authenticity", says Anvisa

According to the agency, the suspicion arose after a communication made by Eli Lilly itself, holder of the drug registration in Brazil. According to the manufacturer, the batch number even exists in the company's system, but with a different serial number.

The agency states that it does not yet know how many units of the product are in circulation or where they were found.

"There is no this estimate or this level of detail at the moment, as these are irregular products, probably counterfeit, that is, criminal conduct, without any control of quality or quantities", he said in a note to Folha de S.Paulo.

The report also sought out Eli Lilly to clarify how the company identified the existence of the suspected product and when it became aware of the case, in addition to questioning how many counterfeit units were identified and in which states, but the company did not respond until the text was published.
