The drug, from the pharmaceutical company Roche, is indicated in combination with chemotherapy for adults with relapsed or refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, unspecified - when the disease returns or stops responding to previous therapies - and who are not clinically fit to receive an autologous stem cell transplant.
According to Anvisa, glofitamab is a bispecific antibody; It binds at the same time to the CD20 protein, present on tumor cells, and to CD3, on T lymphocytes, redirecting the body's defense system against cancer.
The medication is administered intravenously, and registration with Anvisa covers two presentations: 2.5 mg and 10 mg.
The approval authorizes the sale of the product in the country, but to reach the SUS (Unified Health System) the medicine still depends on subsequent evaluation by Conitec (National Commission for the Incorporation of Technologies into the Unified Health System).
Brazil is expected to register around 12 thousand new cases of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma per year between 2026 and 2028, according to estimates from Inca (National Cancer Institute). The disease brings together more than 50 types of cancer that originate in lymphocytes, the body's defense cells, and is the 11th most common tumor in the country, excluding non-melanoma skin cancer.
Anvisa states that diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is the most common subtype of aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, "characterized by rapid clinical evolution and the need for effective treatment, especially in patients with relapsed or refractory disease and limited treatment options."
