Two meteor showers could be seen in Brazil this week

Although the two phenomena occur practically at the same time, visibility will not be ideal. This is because the peak occurs just one day after the July full moon, scheduled for Wednesday (29). According to the American Meteor Society, around 98% of the lunar surface will still be illuminated during the following dawn, which should make it difficult to observe less bright meteors.

The Southern Aquáridas Delta tends to be the more intense of the two. Under favorable conditions, it can produce up to 25 meteors per hour. Alpha Capricornídeas presents less activity, with approximately five meteors per hour, but it usually attracts attention due to its intense brightness and, in some cases, the more vivid colors of the trails left in the sky.

To increase the chances of monitoring the phenomenon, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation recommends looking for locations away from urban lighting, with dark skies and an open horizon. Another tip is to position yourself so that the Moon is behind the observer or is covered by trees, buildings or elevations of the terrain, reducing excess light.

Observation of meteor showers can be done with the naked eye. The use of telescopes or binoculars is not necessary, as this equipment limits the field of vision and makes it difficult to follow the meteors' passage across the sky.
