Marketer sells pastries to help daughters: 'Training two in medicine' Marketer Marly Moreira Silvestre, 55 years old, has been selling pastries for over 29 years at the 304 Sul fair, in Palmas, central region of the state. In the last two years, the work has taken on new meaning: she has started paying for her two daughters' medical courses. "All their lives, since they were children, they said they wanted to be doctors. Fernanda [daughter] was studying in Paraguay, but passed the entrance exam here in Palmas and came. The other was already studying psychology, but wanted to change and do medicine", says Marly. Marly says that, since she was seven years old, she accompanied her fairground parents in the fruit and vegetable trade in Porto Nacional. After she got married, her husband was without a job while they were raising their first daughter, who was 6 months old. "I had nothing to work with. I turned around and said: you know what, let's go to the fair to sell pastries. It was in August 1997. I'm the first stallholder who started selling pastries at this fair and I continue to this day", he explains. "It's very gratifying to see them getting good grades, trying hard. They also go to the fair and help me. They leave college and rush to help me. Today, thank God, I sell a lot and supply pastry dough to other pastry shops too. I make it myself, I make my fillings", says the mother. There are more than 50 fillings available to customers, and meat with cheese and chicken with guariroba are the most requested. During the pandemic, she also included open esfihas on the menu. The daughter, Fernanda Silvestre, 27 years old, says that she dedicates herself to her studies as a way of honoring her mother's efforts, and that she wishes, one day, to be able to repay the love and financial help. "I grew up watching my mother wake up at dawn, face sun, rain, tiredness and never give up. It fills my heart with pride. I'm very proud to be the daughter of a market vendor. Being by her side allows me to see up close how much this work requires dedication, love and the affection with which she treats each customer. Many of them have followed our story for years and, in a way, are also part of this achievement", says the daughter. Marly says that she pays the full amount of the monthly fees and says that, when she manages to pay the installments on time, she also guarantees a 10% discount on the fees. "We have paid for everything with pastels until now. But we are trying to find financing, because it is not easy to pay, it is expensive. But God has provided.
