União Progressista launches Chicão as a candidate for the Senate for Pará Marcus Passos/g1 Pará União Brasil (UNIÃO) confirmed, on Monday night (27), Chicão's candidacy for the Senate for Pará. The decision was made official during a convention held at the party's headquarters, in a business center located in the Nazaré neighborhood, in Belém. The candidate has not yet defined the names that will occupy the first and second substitute positions. At the event, the party also officially supported the candidacy of governor Hana Ghassan (MDB) for re-election and former governor Helder Barbalho in the dispute for one of the Senate seats. ? The election campaign officially begins the following day. In this year's elections, on October 4, Brazilians will vote for: President; Governor; Senate (two seats per state); Federal deputy; State deputy. Chicão's career Francisco das Chagas Silva Melo Filho, known as Chicão, is a public servant and politician with an established career in Pará. Born in Cruzeiro do Sul (AC), on April 19, 1961, he moved to the state in 1975 and began his public life in Ananindeua. He was a councilor for three consecutive terms and presided over the City Council in different periods. In 2004, he was elected vice-mayor of Ananindeua on Helder Barbalho's ticket. Elected state deputy for the first time in 2006, Chicão was successively re-elected and also commanded the state secretariats of Public Works (Seop) and Transport (Setran). Since 2021, he has presided over the Legislative Assembly of the State of Pará (Alepa), being the first permanent member of the House to hold the position.
