The discovery As the couple were the only ones staying at the campsite, Giovanni said that the family's dogs played freely with the gates closed. When they called the animals back to the trailer that day, Poze did not return. Soon they started looking for him and neighbors of a hostel reported hearing barking and dog fighting noises coming from the campsite located in front of where the Brazilians were. According to Giovanni, they found the owner of the land leaving by car that day. "We went to the campsite and found the person responsible leaving in the car. Before he could leave, we stopped and asked: 'Have you seen our dog? He could have come here'. He said he didn't know anything and quickly got into the car", reported the owner. According to Giovanni, it was during this period that they also began to receive reports from residents that the dogs raised on site were aggressive, remained chained during the day and were released at night. The couple decided to talk to the man again. After denying knowing Poze's whereabouts once again, he allegedly confessed to a liquor store attendant that the dogs had killed the animal and that "the dog's body would never be found."
