Balloon crash scares residents in São José and Jacareí Three men, aged between 27 and 41, are being investigated on suspicion of participating in the release of balloons on Thursday night (9), in the Vila Tatetuba neighborhood, in São José dos Campos. According to the Military Police, teams were called to respond to an incident of environmental crime. At the scene, police approached the three men, who were in a vehicle. They were trying to rescue balloons on Avenida Senador Teotônio Vilela, in Monte Castelo, according to the PM. The suspects were taken to the Judicial Police Center (CPJ) in São José dos Campos, where they gave a statement. ? The police authority understood that so far there were not enough elements to link those investigated directly to the release of the balloons. The case was recorded as location and seizure of objects. The police are still working to clarify the circumstances of the incident and the possible participation of the suspects. Releasing balloons is considered an environmental crime in Brazil. The practice is prohibited by law due to the risk of fires in urban and vegetation areas and can threaten aircraft safety. A balloon fell onto the power grid, breaking the wiring and causing a short circuit. The service was carried out in conjunction with the energy concessionaire. At around 7:30 pm, another balloon fell on a residence on Rua dos Pardais, in Vila Tatetuba. The fall caused small fires, which were controlled by firefighters before the flames spread. The site was left safe and no one was injured. Civil Defense also reported that, at around 6:45 pm, it identified through the Security and Intelligence Center (CSI) cameras the fall of a balloon near Rua Antônio Porfírio da Silva, in the Jardim Paulista region.
