Domestic flight prices increase in Rondônia Air tickets to or from Rondônia are among the most expensive in Brazil. Data from the 2025 Air Transport Yearbook, from the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), show that the state recorded the second highest average air fare in the country, behind only Roraima. Furthermore, Rondônia had the biggest increase in ticket prices in 2025, with an increase of 40% compared to the previous year. According to the survey, the average air fare in the state reached R$1,277 in 2025, while in Roraima the average value was R$1,401. The yearbook also points out that Rondônia has the longest average flight distance in the country, with 2,906 kilometers each way, a factor that helps explain the high cost of travel. Another indicator that grew was the yield, an index that represents the amount paid by the passenger per kilometer flown. In Rondônia, the average yield was R$0.446 per kilometer, growth of 30.8% compared to 2024. For economist Matheus Torrente, columnist for CBN Amazônia, the geographic location of Rondônia is one of the main factors for the high cost of tickets. "The main reason why Rondônia is among the highest national prices for air tickets is our geographical distance. Our country is continental and flights from here travel much longer distances. Furthermore, one of the biggest costs for airlines is fuel, which represents almost 30% of the cost of the flight", he explains. According to him, the combination of long flights, low supply and high costs makes the operation more expensive in the North region. "As we are not as populated here in the North, especially Rondônia and Acre, there is not as much availability of flights. With few flights available, planes tend to leave full, but this also causes prices to increase", he comments. The economist also points out that airport infrastructure influences the scenario. Another challenge, according to Matheus, is the lack of specialized labor and infrastructure dedicated to the airline sector. "We have an international airport, but with few international flights. This reduces companies' interest in expanding operations. Furthermore, it is necessary to have ground teams, mechanics, supply and an entire logistics structure to serve the companies." For him, measures such as tax incentives on fuel, investments in airports, strengthening regional aviation and expanding cargo transport could stimulate new operations and increase competition. Passengers feel the impact on their pockets Those who need to travel frequently directly feel the effects of high prices. Lawyer and university professor Welison Nunes often travels to Brasília, São Paulo and, eventually, abroad. According to him, the cost of tickets varies between R$3,500 and R$7,000. "A ticket from Porto Velho to Brasília, depending on the time of purchase, costs between R$3,500 and R$3,800." Welison states that he has stopped traveling because of the price of tickets and to try to save money, he buys tickets in advance. "I've already stopped taking several trips due to the cost. You can buy a round trip abroad and you can't buy a ticket from Porto Velho to Brasília or São Paulo for the same price", he says. Air movement in Rondônia Despite the high fares, Rondônia maintained, in 2025, operations at four airports, the same number recorded in the previous year. Throughout the year, 2,605 takeoffs were carried out in the state. The majority occurred in Porto Velho. Porto Velho: 2,236 takeoffs; Ji-Paraná: 166; Vilhena: 102; Cacoal: 101. The state also recorded 336,750 paid passengers transported in the domestic market. Movement was distributed as follows: Porto Velho: 302,246 passengers; Ji-Paraná: 11,572; Cacoal: 11,519; Vilhena: 11,413. In cargo transportation, there was a decline. The amount of paid cargo and mail shipped fell from 803 tons, in 2024, to 758 tons in 2025. g1 sought out the airlines Azul, Gol and Latam, which operate flights in Rondônia, to clarify the factors that influence ticket prices in the state.
