The animal had been sent to the unit after successive episodes of stranding and attempts to return it to the sea. The rescue was carried out by the Lagos Region Marine Mammal Study Group (GEMM-Lagos), with support from the Albatroz Institute. During the rehabilitation period, the sperm whale was monitored by veterinarians from GEMM-Lagos and the Albatroz, ORCA and Baleia Jubarte institutes. ? According to the institutions, the cause of death has not yet been identified. The animal will undergo necropsy and additional tests to determine what caused the death. The result will be announced after the technical analysis is completed. The institutions advise that, in the event of sightings of stranded marine animals, alive or dead, on the beaches of the Lagos Region, the population contact the Beach Monitoring Project (PMP-BC/ES) by calling 0800 991 4800.
