Douglas said he was close to the exit, but went back to help the students when he realized the structure was falling. “I was very close to the exit, but I dropped everything I was doing and went back because I wanted everyone to get out of there,” he said. According to the teacher, the structure hit his shoulder and caused injuries. “I'm having a little trouble moving my arm, but it'll be fine,” he said. After the collapse, students and teachers tried to remove equipment that was not affected by the debris. Her car, parked outside, was destroyed. The vehicle was not insured. "It was scary, because we couldn't think about doing anything. It was very quick. By the time we looked, everything was already collapsing, the roof, the walls. We only thought about protecting ourselves", he said. According to her, Douglas took people out of the place. "He didn't think about anything. He just wanted to get out and help people. We had material damage, but thank God everyone is alive," he said.
