According to the unit, the drop in the number of donors, combined with the increase in demand for transfusions, has compromised supply. According to donor collector Thainá Mariano, the winter period usually reduces the number of donations due to the increase in flu cases. She explains that people who have had the disease can donate blood seven days after symptoms disappear. Last week, the blood bank recorded an increase in demand after serving accident victims and patients undergoing treatment. ? Minors under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian. Before donating, the advice is not to fast and avoid consuming fatty foods in the hours before the procedure.
