Mayor of Maceió calls TSE to take back command of Podemos in Alagoas The mayor of Maceió, Rodrigo Cunha, called the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) to try to annul his removal from command of Podemos in Alagoas. Cunha presented a writ of mandamus requesting an injunction against the party's national president, Renata Abreu. ?Join the g1 Alagoas channel The action was filed on Monday (27) and is being reported by Minister Dias Toffoli. In the process, the mayor asks for the immediate suspension of the dissolution of the state directory he presided over and the appointment of the current provisional commission, led by Mosart da Silva Amaral. According to the petition, the directory chaired by Cunha was scheduled to be in effect between January 1st and December 31st, 2026. The national leadership of Podemos, however, would have determined the dismissal of the composition with effect from May 12th. Two days later, on May 14, the new provisional commission was registered in the Electoral Court system. Cunha maintains that the replacement was carried out in a “unilateral and summary” manner, without prior notification, opening of internal proceedings or opportunity for him to present a defense. “The petitioner only became aware of the dismissal through consultation with the Electoral Justice system itself”, states the defense in the document. According to the action, the mayor did not receive communication, notification, letter or any other document from the National Directory of Podemos about the change. Action arrives at the TSE during the convention period Rodrigo Cunha (Podemos-AL) Marcos Oliveira/Agência Senado Although the dismissal took place in May, the defense argues that the effects of the exchange reach a decisive moment for the 2026 General Elections. The action was presented during the party convention period, which ends on August 5th. According to the petition, the change in state command may affect decisions related to conventions, coalitions or federations and the presentation of the Demonstrative of Regularity of Party Acts (DRAP), a document necessary for the registration of candidacies launched by the party. The deadline for parties and federations to submit candidacy registration requests ends on August 15th. The defense also raises the hypothesis of political-electoral motivation for the change. As an argument, it reproduces a local report according to which the arrival of Mosart Amaral at the helm of Podemos would strengthen minister Renan Filho's political group in Alagoas. Mosart Amaral is state secretary of Transport and Urban Development. The petition, however, does not present a statement from Podemos's national leadership that confirms the political motivation highlighted by Cunha's defense. g1 contacted the National Directory of Podemos, Renata Abreu and Mosart Amaral, but did not receive a response until the publication of the report. What the mayor asks for Rodrigo Cunha Agência Senado As a preliminary matter, Rodrigo Cunha requests that the TSE suspend the effects of the dissolution of the old directory and the appointment of the current provisional commission. He also requests that the previous composition be immediately reestablished in the Party Information Management System and in the Electoral Court records. The defense also wants the Podemos National Directory to be prevented from promoting new interventions or dissolutions in the state body until a new court decision. In the final judgment, Cunha requests that the dismissal be declared null and void due to alleged violation of due legal process, contradictory proceedings and broad defense. The action also requests that Renata Abreu be notified to provide information and that Mosart Amaral participate in the process as an interested third party.
