Investigation operation against infiltration of a criminal faction in the politics of Itapoá MPSC/Disclosure The Special Action Group to Combat Criminal Organizations (Gaeco) launched an operation this Wednesday (29) to investigate signs of infiltration of a criminal faction in the political environment of Itapoá, on the North Coast of Santa Catarina. According to the investigation, residents were coerced into expressing support for specific candidates and opponents were intimidated and threatened. Named 'Catilina', the action carries out eight search and seizure warrants at addresses linked to three people under investigation. The investigations took place exclusively in Itapoá and g1 is trying to contact the municipal administration. Itapoá is the city with the largest coastal strip in Santa Catarina, located in the north of the state. With 32 kilometers of coastline, Itapoá borders Paraná and has around 30 thousand residents.

Benefits and aid were distributed to those investigated. The investigation began based on information sent to the 1st Public Prosecutor's Office of Itapoá. According to the municipality, benefits and aid would have been distributed in communities under the influence of the criminal organization, with the aim of obtaining political support. Those investigated are also suspected of maintaining links between political agents, private enterprises and members of the criminal organization, in a structure aimed at strengthening the faction's interests. The materials seized during the execution of the warrants will be sent to the Scientific Police for investigation. The evidence collected will be analyzed by Gaeco to support the continuity of the investigations, identify other possible parties involved and deepen the investigation of the facts.
