(UOL/FOLHAPRESS) - Corinthians is very close to making official the renewal of the contract with striker Memphis Depay for another two years. The report found that, basically, all that remains is to put the terms on paper and collect the signatures. The Dutchman and the São Paulo club reached a general agreement on all matters this Sunday.

According to sources close to the player, Memphis has accepted that the new contract will last two years. Previously, the athlete wanted a three-year contract.

Furthermore, the Dutchman agreed to drastically reduce his salary in relation to his current contract. If implemented, the new agreement will be paid by two "cost centers": 75% of salaries will come from the football budget, as a fixed salary, and another 25% will come from marketing actions, such as product creation, participation in events and sponsorship actions.

The report also found that the debt of more than R$40 million that Corinthians has with Memphis will be diluted over the period of the contract agreed between the parties. Timão suggested paying semiannual installments, starting in February 2027 and ending in 2028. The athlete's final acceptance remains.

The idea is that this charge will begin to occur later so as not to "strangle" the Corinthians cash flow, which suffers from a series of debts, including three transfer bans.

Memphis is on vacation and was awaiting a decision on his future whether or not to return to Brazil. He published photos in Spain recently.

His last game for Corinthians was on May 27, in the 2-0 defeat to Platense, in the Libertadores. After that, he joined the Dutch team to compete in the World Cup - he was a substitute and played in three of the team's four games at the World Cup.

Memphis arrived at Corinthians in September 2024 and has scored 20 goals and 15 assists in 79 games with the São Paulo club. During this period, he won the Copa do Brasil, Supercopa do Brasil and Campeonato Paulista titles.

CORINTHIANS WITHOUT MEMPHIS

Corinthians played their fourth game this Sunday (26) since Memphis Depay joined the Dutch squad for the World Cup. The team beat Grêmio and Remo and drew with Bahia and Cascavel-PR - the latter in an interseason friendly.

Kaio César has been Memphis' replacement. The number 37 established himself after suffering from physical problems at the beginning of his time and became an alternative with more mobility and dribbling - the Dutchman is less mobile and faster.

Corinthians returns to the field next Thursday. The team hosts Athletico, at 7:30 pm (Brasília time), at the Neo Química Arena, for the 21st round of the Brasileirão. In August, the team will still play in the Copa do Brasil and the Libertadores.
