SÃO PAULO, SP (UOL/FOLHAPRESS) - It was painful, but Novak Djokovic is in the semifinals of Wimbledon 2026. The Serb beat Felix Auger-Aliassime, number 4 in the world, by 3 sets to 2 in a battle lasting more than five hours and remains alive in the search for his 25th Grand Slam title.

The splits were 7/6 (12-10), 3/6, 6/3, 6/7 (4) and 7/6 (10-8), after 5h15 of duel at the All England Club.

This match, in fact, was the Serb's longest in his entire Wimbledon career - tying with the 2018 semifinal, when he also beat Rafael Nadal in 5h15.

The duel ended with a super tie-break in the fifth set, won by Djokovic 10-8.

In the semifinals, Djokovic will meet world number 1, Yannick Sinner. The duel will take place this Thursday.

DRAMA AND INJURY

Djokovic experienced moments of concern in the first set. After a long exchange of blows, the Serb felt pain in his left calf and had to seek medical attention. Despite the discomfort, he returned to the court and managed to save three set points before closing the match in an exciting tie-break.

Aliassime reacted in the second set. The Canadian started to put more pressure on his opponent's service games, managed to break at the decisive moment and tied the match after taking advantage of a drop in Djokovic's performance. The Serb, however, responded quickly. More aggressive in his exchanges and exploiting his rival's mistakes, Djokovic won the third set and took the lead again.

EMOTION UNTIL THE END

When it seemed to lead to the classification, Djokovic saw Aliassime finding strength to take the decision to the fifth set. The Canadian saved break opportunities, won the fourth set tie-break and forced a final split on Center Court.

In the decisive set, the two tennis players confirmed their services and took the dispute back to a tiebreaker. In the super tie-break, Djokovic showed the experience of someone looking for another historic title, controlled the final points and secured the victory.

In the semifinals, the Serb will face Italian Jannik Sinner, current Wimbledon champion, who defeated Jan-Lennard Struff in the quarterfinals. It will be another chapter in the recent rivalry between the two, who faced each other in the semifinals of the tournament in 2023 and in the final in 2024.
