Jared Leto Wins Best Supporting Actor Oscar for 'Dallas Buyers Club' REUTERS/Lucy Nicholson Warning: Contains graphic details of alleged sexual crimes and misconduct, as well as strong language. Four women have accused Jared Leto, the Oscar-winning actor and lead singer of the band Thirty Seconds to Mars, of criminal sexual conduct. The alleged infractions would have occurred when they were teenagers. One of the women claims to have been sexually abused in a motel bathroom when she was 17 years old. Another reports that the Hollywood star threatened her with sexual abuse when she was 19 and was unexpectedly left alone with him in a hotel room. Jared Leto poses with the Oscar he won in 2014 Getty Images via BBC A third party describes having sex with the artist in California when she was 17 years old — which would be classified as sexual abuse of a minor, due to the age of consent. According to her, Leto minimized a conversation about the fact that the age of consent was 18 in that American state. The fourth woman claims she was groomed by Leto, saying he abused his celebrity status by making repeated sexually explicit phone calls to her when she was 16. On at least one occasion, she claims he suggested they have sex. She was later sent a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to prevent her from talking about her relationship with Leto — a document to which the BBC had access. However, she refused to sign it. Four other women also report receiving strange and often sexual calls from Leto when they were younger. Another woman says that, at age 14, he instructed a security guard to take her backstage at a music festival after making an obscene comment about her breasts during a book signing. The young woman's mother confronted Leto, but he allegedly repeated the comment. In total, ten women gave testimonials for the BBC documentary Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret, and nine of them shared their stories publicly for the first time. They all claim to have met Leto between 2002 and 2016, a period when he was between 30 and just over 40 years old. Today, he is 54 years old. "This happened 25 years ago, and he got away with it," says one of the alleged victims. The BBC corroborated several of the reports through friends and family who were told about the meetings with Leto at the time. In some cases, they also had access to photos and messages that support the versions presented by the women. Two men who worked with Leto's band for many years also recounted in the documentary the crew's discomfort with the way he interacted with teenage girls, sometimes inviting them backstage, to his dressing room or to the house where he was recording. "I think everyone thought the age difference was too big," says one of them. Despite repeated attempts to contact, Jared Leto has not responded to the allegations leveled at him by the BBC. In addition to acting, Leto is the lead singer of the band Thirty Seconds to Mars J. Shearer/WireImage via BBC Leto has been a prominent actor since the 1990s and won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2014 for Dallas Buyers Club. He acted in films such as Fight Club, Blade Runner 2049 and Suicide Squad and, more recently, participated in Masters of the Universe. His rock band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, formed in 1998, has also achieved international recognition. The group will tour continental Europe and the UK next spring, with shows at London's O2 Arena and Manchester's Co-op Live. 'Gruny, disgusting motel' Isabel says that, for years, she blamed herself after Leto sexually assaulted her in 2002 BBC In the BBC documentary, the four women who allege the actor's criminal behavior — Isabel, Alex, Clara and Etta — describe in detail what they say happened on dates with the star. Now 40 years old, Isabel (not her real name) says that she only recently stopped blaming herself for the sexual assault that, according to her, occurred in 2002, when she was 17 years old. "For most of my life I viewed this event as if I was a stupid girl, and then this bad thing happened." Isabel says she agreed to meet Leto at his hotel after showing the actor and his friends the Las Vegas store where she worked. The address they gave her turned out to be a "filthy, run-down motel," but she says she assumed the two were going somewhere else. Isabel says she was sitting on the bed, waiting for Leto to get ready, when he called her into the bathroom so they could talk while he took a shower. "I don't think we exchanged many words and he opened the shower curtain and started kissing me," he says in the documentary. Then, according to her, Leto took her hand and used it to masturbate. Surprised, the then teenager says she walked away and said she wanted to leave. Wearing just a towel, Leto came out of the bathroom and appeared to check if anyone was nearby, she says, before letting her leave the room. It was only later, according to Isabel, when researching the actor on the internet, that she realized he was over 30 years old. The accusations against Leto have persisted for decades. The BBC identified more than 120 separate reports published on the internet about his behavior towards women, some of them referring to old episodes. Last year, the accusations gained momentum again when Los Angeles DJ Allie Teilz posted on social media that she had been assaulted by the actor when she was 17 years old. The post prompted several other women to report similar experiences. Also last year, nine women accused Leto of inappropriate sexual conduct in a report by the American outlet Air Mail. He denied all accusations. Isabel was 17 when she met Leto B
