In 2022, 65% supported adult-like punishment, while 34% preferred re-education.
The question makes up the behavioral axis of Datafolha's ideological matrix. Although the questionnaire uses the wording "adolescents who commit crimes", Brazilian legislation treats these behaviors as infractions when committed by minors under 18 years of age.
Among evangelicals, 75% advocate that teenagers be punished like adults. Among Catholics, the percentage is 72%. Re-education is chosen by 24% of evangelicals and 25% of Catholics.
In terms of presidential voting intentions, 61% of Lula's voters (PT) defend punishment as adults, and 37%, re-education. Among Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) voters, the percentages are 81% and 17%, respectively.
The survey also shows that the majority of Brazilians say they agree most with the phrase that "the use of drugs should be prohibited because the entire society suffers from the consequences". The answer was chosen by 85% of respondents.
The opposite alternative, that "the use of drugs should not be prohibited, because it is the user who suffers the consequences", was cited by 13%. Another 2% were unable to answer.
The result keeps the theme at a stable level in the historical series. In 2022, 83% supported a ban on drug use, while 15% said it should not be banned. As the variation is within the general error margin of two percentage points, the data must be treated as an oscillation.
Support for the ban is the majority in all groups analyzed.
Datafolha interviewed in person 2,004 voters aged 16 or over in 139 municipalities, on June 17 and 18, 2026. The maximum margin of error for the total sample is 2 percentage points, plus or minus, within the 95% confidence level. In strata, the margin varies depending on the base. The research is registered with the TSE under number BR-09956/2026.
