Lawyer is shot dead in RJ; ex is found dead hours later

According to initial information, the attack took place on Rua Poeta Hermes Fontes, in the Penha neighborhood. The shots were allegedly fired by a man who was on a motorcycle.

Hours later, police officers found the victim's ex-partner, Rogério Conceição da Costa, 44, dead. He was in an apartment located in the Jóquei neighborhood and is named as the main suspect in the crime.

The 134th Police Station, responsible for the investigation, initially works with the hypothesis of feminicide followed by suicide. In a note sent to Metrópoles, the Civil Police reported that agents are looking for images from security cameras and carrying out other measures to clarify the entire dynamics of the deaths.

Bárbara was a mother of two children and, in addition to working as a lawyer, was studying a degree in Literature at the Centro campus of the Instituto Federal Fluminense.

The 12th Subsection of the Brazilian Bar Association in Rio de Janeiro lamented the death of the professional and stated that the case represents yet another manifestation of the violence that affects women in the country.

In a statement, the organization asked that Bárbara's memory be preserved and defended the strengthening of the collective commitment against gender-based violence.

The Federal Fluminense Institute also spoke out. The institution repudiated feminicide and highlighted that violence against women constitutes a serious violation of human rights.

The IFF also offered solidarity to the student's family and friends and reinforced that combating feminicide must mobilize the entire society.
