Cold front, cyclone and heat above 40ºC: see what the weather is like in Brazil this week

The week between August 3rd and 7th will be marked by different conditions between Brazilian regions.

While the South is once again experiencing rain and the risk of storms, the Central-West, Southeast, North and part of the Northeast are facing dry weather, heat and low humidity, a scenario that favors harvesting in some areas, but increases the risk of fires and heat stress in the herd.

South Region: rain returns and cyclone keeps alert for storms

The week begins with the return of instability in Rio Grande do Sul. A low pressure system between Paraguay and northern Argentina, associated with a trough in the middle levels of the atmosphere, causes rain showers from the early hours of the day in the west, southwest and Campanha Gaúcha.

Throughout Monday (3), areas of rain advance towards the northwest, south coast, Serra Gaúcha, Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre and the interior of Santa Catarina. The south of Paraná should also register an increase in cloudiness.

The largest volumes are expected for the west and south of Rio Grande do Sul, where there is a risk of storms with thunderstorms.

On Tuesday (4), the formation of an extratropical cyclone between Uruguay and Rio Grande do Sul reinforces instabilities and maintains the risk of gusts of wind and hail in the producing areas of the three southern states.

During the week, rainfall accumulations are expected to vary between 30 and 60 millimeters, a condition that could delay activities in the field, such as transport, management and agricultural operations.

Southeast Region: heat favors harvest, but cold front changes the weather in São Paulo

The dry air mass continues to predominate over São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro for much of the week.

The weather remains firm, with few clouds and no significant rain forecast. Only the coast and the north of Espírito Santo, in addition to the northeast of Minas Gerais, may record light rain due to the influence of maritime circulation.

Temperatures remain high, with maximums between 36°C and 38°C in the west of São Paulo and in areas of Minas Gerais. The scenario favors the advancement of the coffee harvest, second-crop corn, cotton and sugar cane.

From Thursday (6), a cold front will cause changes in weather conditions in São Paulo, with forecasts of storms and accumulations of between 30 and 40 millimeters, which could interrupt operations in the field. In Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo, little rain is expected.

Central-West Region: heat above 40°C requires attention to the herd

The predominance of the dry air mass keeps the weather steady in Goiás, the Federal District and much of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul.

Temperatures remain high throughout the week, reaching over 42°C in the north of Mato Grosso do Sul and the south of Mato Grosso. In the rest of Mato Grosso and Goiás, thermometers can reach 40°C.

In the west and southwest of Mato Grosso do Sul, areas of instability favor rain showers between the late afternoon and evening. Isolated rain is also forecast in the west, southwest and northwest of Mato Grosso.

Starting Thursday, Mato Grosso do Sul goes on alert for storms. Accumulations can reach 50 millimeters, a condition that tends to delay agricultural operations, but contributes to increasing soil humidity.

Dry weather favors the continuation of the second harvest of cotton and corn in most of the region.

In livestock farming, pay attention to the risk of heat stress in animals in confinement. The recommendation is to avoid handling during the hottest hours of the day and ensure water availability for the animals.

Northeast Region: rain is restricted to the coast

The rain continues to be concentrated between the coast of Bahia, Sergipe, Alagoas, Pernambuco, Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte. The predicted volumes vary between 20 and 30 millimeters, associated with the circulation of humid winds coming from the ocean.

In the northeastern interior, dry weather predominates, low relative humidity and temperatures between 39°C and 40°C. The condition favors the advancement of the second harvest of cotton and corn, but increases the risk of fires.

There is also an alert for heat stress in confined cattle, requiring care with handling and hydration.

North Region: rain in the far north and heat in Tocantins and southern Pará

Rain showers remain concentrated in the north and west of Amazonas, Roraima, Amapá and northern Pará. In Acre and Rondônia, the rain occurs isolated and with low volumes.

Tocantins, southern Pará, eastern and southern Amazonas continue to experience firm weather, high temperatures and low humidity.

The predicted accumulations vary between 10 and 20 millimeters in areas of Acre, Rondônia, Amazonas, Roraima, Amapá and northern Pará, without significant impact on water storage in the soil.

In Tocantins and southern Pará, temperatures can exceed 39°C and 40°C, keeping the risk of fires high.

Conditions remain favorable for the second harvest of cotton and corn, while livestock farming must adopt measures to reduce thermal stress on the herd, especially in confinement systems.
