For the first time since Filipe Luís left Flamengo's technical command, president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, publicly commented on the decision that ended the former full-back's time at the club. Participating in Barbacast, the director explained the reasons that led to his dismissal, stated that the definition had already been made even before the 8-0 defeat of Madureira and denied that the change was motivated only by the last result.

During the conversation, Bap also refuted information circulating behind the scenes about alleged board planning involving changes to the cast's vacation schedule. According to him, this type of decision was never discussed collectively: "Let's go through it in parts. There was no planning."
Afterwards, the president contested the version that gained strength behind the scenes at the club: “That’s empty talk.” For the red-black president, there was never any plan previously approved by the board: “This narrative that there was planning did not exist.”
Bap also reinforced that institutional decisions of this nature are the exclusive responsibility of the presidency: “I am the one who makes this type of institutional decision, and I will not give up on it.”
When addressing the change in technical command, the director explained that the evaluation involved Flamengo's entire performance at the beginning of the season. According to him, at the time of the decision, the team had the worst performance among Series A clubs within the criteria adopted internally.
The president revealed that Filipe Luís' fate was already defined before the last match: “The decision had already been made.” Therefore, according to Bap, not even the defeat of Madureira would change the planning. “Whatever the outcome of that game was, it would be maintained,” he said. When summarizing the process that led to the change in command, the director stated: “It was a decision based on the work as a whole.”
Despite the dismissal, Bap made a point of highlighting that the evaluation of Filipe Luís' work remains positive and stated that he believes in the coach's success in European football: “I understand that Filipe is a great coach.” Afterwards, he wished the former red and black commander good luck in his new challenge: “I hope he does well at Monaco.”
The president also explained why he believes in the coach's success. “I think he will succeed because he is prepared and correct”, he pointed out.
Even with the end of his time at Flamengo, Bap stated that the personal relationship between them was not shaken: “This does not change the appreciation or gratitude I have for everything he did for Flamengo.”
Finally, he placed Filipe Luís among the main coaches in the club's history: “He is already in the hall of great coaches in Flamengo's history.”
From renewal to breakup The tension between the president and coach began during the negotiations for the contract renewal, at the end of 2025. Even after the signing of the new contract, the relationship remained strained and was impacted by the results at the beginning of the season, marked by the runners-up finishes in the Supercopa Rei and Recopa Sudamericana. Filipe Luís was informed of the decision shortly after holding a press conference during the victory over Madureira, when he received the information from the football director, José Boto.
The departure ended a successful trajectory at the club. In 101 games ahead of the main team, Filipe Luís won 63 wins, 23 draws and 15 defeats, achieving a 70.2% success rate. During the period, he lifted the Libertadores, Campeonato Brasileiro, Copa do Brasil, Campeonato Carioca and Supercopa do Brasil trophies, in addition to leading Flamengo to the final of the Intercontinental Cup.
