Businessman finds real owner and returns R$1,500 lost in Sorriso; “there are still good people”

Without knowing exactly where he had lost the money, Itamar returned to the establishments he passed in an attempt to find it, but was unsuccessful. According to him, hope was already small. "I went to collect a little rent there, and when I came back, I lost that money. I got home, saw that I didn't have the money in my pocket, I went back to where I had bought it. I came back home and said: “Someone is giving glory to God now, because R$ 1.5 thousand, right, these days”.

The scenario changed when businessman Éder Chaves decided to analyze the images from security cameras. The work began after a customer found some of the money on the sidewalk and handed it over to the company. “One of our customers, Mr. Romarzinho, from Boa Esperança, came out of the store, on the sidewalk, and saw money thrown there. Automatically, this client friend of ours took this money and handed it over. We took the money and said: if the owner emerges, we will return it. Let's leave it here for a week. If the owner shows up, if he doesn't show up, we'll donate it to the institution.

Even so, the team decided to deepen the search. Using images from the establishment and the city's monitoring system, it was possible to follow the farmer's journey, identify the moment the money fell and locate the owner. "We were able to see it through the city's cameras. And then, there, we were able to locate it. The people here were able to locate the owner and said: well, return it to the owner, right? Because it's not ours and it has to be right."

Upon finding the money again, Itamar said he received the news with gratitude and emotion. "These days, it seems that everything you earn is often not enough to pay off your bills. So it's about giving glory to God, saying that God is good in our lives." For the farmer, the episode represented more than the recovery of value. “These days, finding a person and giving back money that you lost, whoever loses money has no owner, so for me it is a work that God did in my life, that will stick with me.”

He also made a point of thanking the person who found the money. “There are still good people and it’s gratitude and saying that God is good and God will reward him for that too.”

The municipal secretary of Public Security, Traffic and Civil Defense, retired PM Nerci Adriano Denardi, highlighted that the case demonstrates the importance of integration between technology and the honesty of the population. "The city councils are not just for catching thiefs or accidents, they are there to be an example of honesty, that there are still very correct people living in Sorriso. Firstly, the honesty of the people. Secondly, the team that managed to do this investigative work, in terms of identifying the motorcycle, identifying the license plate, calling the citizen. And the third is knowing that the investment we made in the area of ??technology is there to the test."
