During Saturday's tribute to the musician, Nickell detailed the last conversation they had before the fatal helicopter crash. "I texted Oliver the day before he passed, asking how the process of quitting smoking was going, as he had promised he would quit when he was on tour," she said, according to Page Six.
She said her son was excited. "He FaceTimed me immediately and blew a huge puff of cigarette smoke in my face. But he was so happy and excited about life that day."
"He told us he was going to take a helicopter to a house on top of a mountain the next day to make music and videos for TikTok with his friends," said Christine Begin Nickell.
The singer's mother concluded. "He loved having epic days. Each one more memorable than the last."
On Saturday, Oliver Tree's family and fans celebrated his life with a ceremony in Santa Cruz, California, the city where he was born and raised.
