Directed by Yasmin Thayná, the narrative should address the social and racial barriers faced by the athlete from Rio Grande do Sul during her training and rise, until she consolidated herself as one of the biggest names in artistic gymnastics in the world. Currently in pre-production, the film does not have a release date.
The project is co-produced by the Bahian company Ashé Ventures, whose co-founders are the American actress Viola Davis. The film will be distributed in Brazilian cinemas by Vitrine Filmes.
Daiane dos Santos herself said she was excited about the biopic. In a statement, the former gymnast highlighted her desire for her story to serve as an encouragement to girls, especially young black women, to see horizons and confidently occupy spaces in different areas, such as sport, arts, sciences and medicine.
