The president of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), Minister Edson Fachin, stated this Wednesday (8) that the Justice system will be attentive to prevent the infiltration of organized crime in the electoral process....
According to the minister, combating political violence is one of the main concerns of the Electoral Court. He highlighted that measures in this area were adopted under the administration of the president of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), minister Cármen Lúcia, and that they are being continued under the presidency of minister Kassio Nunes Marques.
“The entire justice system will be careful to ensure that organized crime does not infiltrate the electoral procedure and that voting is a true exercise of popular sovereignty,” he stated.
The statement was given to journalists after the minister participated in the inauguration ceremony of the Specialized Crime Courts of the São Paulo Court of Justice.
"An election must always be carried out calmly, without violence, without electoral co-optation, without extortion of electoral consent. And, for this, the Electoral Court is prepared, as it has been in other electoral procedures", he added.
As CNN showed, evaluating the security of the electoral process will be one of the priorities of Kassio Nunes Marques' management at the TSE. The minister intends to map the presence of organized crime in the states to understand whether there will be a need for federal reinforcement.
