The number of unemployment benefit claims in the United States increased by 9,000 in the week ending July 25, to 197,000, according to a survey released by the Department of Labor this Thursday, 30. The number was lower than expected by analysts consulted by FactSet, who predicted 207,000 claims.

The previous week's total orders were revised upwards from 187,000 to 188,000.

Total continued orders fell by 7,000 in the week ended July 18, to 1.782 million, below the FactSet consensus of 1.793 million. This indicator is released one week late.
