Uber will cut Comfort and Black models

The company announced an update to the list of cars accepted in Uber Comfort and Uber Black, with changes that come into effect on January 11, 2027. According to Uber, the review was based on research carried out with users and analyzes of the evolution of the automotive market. The objective is to keep the premium categories in line with passenger expectations in aspects such as comfort, interior space, finishing and experience during the trip.

In the Uber Black category, some models will no longer be accepted regardless of the year of manufacture. The list includes Audi A3, Chevrolet Cruze, Citroën C4 Cactus, Citroën C4 Lounge, Renault Duster, Toyota Prius, Hyundai Ioniq, CAOA Chery Arrizo 5, Volkswagen Nivus and Volkswagen Virtus.

The Volkswagen Virtus will have a different rule. The model will remain eligible for Uber Black until July 5, 2027, when it will be definitively removed from the category.

Uber also set a transition rule for BYD Dolphin. The vehicle can only be registered with Black until December 31, 2026. Cars registered until that date can remain in the category until the end of 2027.

The changes also affect Uber Comfort. Starting in January, some cars will no longer meet the category criteria and will only operate on UberX, as long as they comply with the platform's other rules. Among the excluded models are Fiat Argo, Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Voyage, Chevrolet Prisma, Chevrolet Joy Plus, Toyota Yaris Hatch, Peugeot 208, Renault Zoe, Kia Rio, JAC J3 Turin and JAC iEV40.

In practice, drivers will not be prevented from working at Uber, but they will no longer receive calls from Comfort. The modality usually offers higher rates than UberX.

VEHICLE RULES ALSO CHANGE

In addition to excluding models, the company updated the minimum year of manufacture required for several vehicles in the premium categories. The change varies depending on the city. In some capitals, for example, models such as Honda City, BYD Dolphin, Volkswagen Virtus and Peugeot 2008 will need to be newer to remain eligible for Uber Black. The platform reported that the requirements were defined taking into account characteristics valued by passengers and the changes that have occurred in the automobile market in recent years.

Another new feature announced by the company is a permanence rule for vehicles recently added to the premium categories. According to Uber, starting in 2027, every model included in Comfort or Black will remain eligible for at least two years, as long as it continues to meet the maximum age requirements established for each category.

To receive calls on Uber Black, drivers must also maintain a minimum average rating of 4.85 stars and have completed more than 100 trips on the platform. In Comfort, the travel requirement is the same, while the minimum rating varies between 4.80 and 4.85, depending on the city.

Industry confidence falls to lowest level since the pandemic

As a result, the indicator has remained below the 50-point line for 19 consecutive months, which separates confidence from lack of confidence. This is the second longest sequence of pessimism in the historical series, behind only the period of economic recession between 2015 and 2016.
