(FOLHAPRESS) - It is not only in the light vehicle segment that used models appear as a viable purchasing alternative when zero-kilometer options become distant due to high prices or unfavorable circumstances. It also works like this in the truck market.

In the first half of the year there was a sharp drop in sales of heavy vehicles, with a drop of 9.4% compared to the result in the same period last year. At the same time, transporters turned to the used market to expand their fleets.

This meant that the volume of second-hand models sold grew by an incredible 300% compared to 2025, totaling 289,368 units traded, according to data from Fenauto (National Federation of Motor Vehicle Dealers Associations).

The price of new vehicles was not the only factor that led to this boom in used vehicles, nor did the difficult access to the credit necessary to purchase the good justify the increase.

There was also interference from the new market itself in the result, since these vehicles are used as input when purchasing brand new trucks.

"We saw a strong boost in used cars in the market in the first half of the year because it was during this period that sales of new models increased due to incentives from the Move Brasil program," said Marcelo Franciulli, executive director of Fenabrave, which is the association that represents the vehicle distribution sector in the country.

"Many of the trucks purchased through the program had one used as currency when closing the deal", added the executive.

In terms of models, heavy trucks led sales, reflecting the demand for long-distance road transport. Among the highlights are models renowned for their robustness and liquidity, such as the Volvo FH, with 16 thousand units sold among used vehicles in the first half of the year. The model also leads the zero-kilometer heavy-duty market.

In second place is the Ford Cargo (13,589 units sold), which still shines in the market even with the closure of the automaker's production activities in the region. Then, in third, the Mercedes-Benz Axor (8,074 units).

But the growth seen in the first half of the year may not be repeated in the second. "The stability of the market is a sign of the sector's resilience during the World Cup period, when general financial activity suffers a temporary slowdown," said Everton Fernandes, president of Fenauto.

"We will still have a new challenge ahead, with the elections in October, but we maintain our forecasts of a possible new sales record by the end of the year."

There was also growth in sales of used pickup trucks and light commercial vehicles in the first half of the year, according to data from Fenauto. During the period, 1.034 million units were sold, 9.8% more than in the same cycle in 2025. Sales in this segment were driven by the Fiat Strada (216,806 units sold), Toyota Hilux (104,245) and Volkswagen Saveiro (127,865).
