Trump 'needs' Thomas Tuchel at the World Cup

Trump criticized England's stance in the semi-final and Tuchel's choices. The American president cited the retreat of striker Harry Kane, with whom he has played golf, in his comment.

"There's a great player in England that I played golf with, Harry [Kane], he's fantastic. Maybe they [England] made a mistake when they made him a defender. What do I know about football? They took the lead and put their best player in defense. We have to be a little offensive, right? What do I know about being a coach? But that's not common," Trump said during the event.

Tuchel was the main "villain" in England's elimination. After the team took a 1-0 lead with a goal from Gordon, the German coach removed attackers and added defenders to the team. Enzo Fernández equalized for Argentina, and Lautaro Martínez turned the game into 2-1.

The coach maintains that he does not regret what he did. this Friday (17), at the press conference on the eve of the decision for third place, he repeated what he had said shortly after the end of the confrontation against Argentina and even cited Trump's quote.

"Do you use Trump as your witness in the case? If you're asking me if I regret my decisions, I say no, I don't regret the decisions I made. I felt we were too passive, the momentum of the game changed and I tried to help my team, I made decisions believing in my instinct and my experience. I take full responsibility for that," Tuchel said at a press conference

Tuchel commented on the adjective “coward” he received from some of the press. The German coach stated that he doesn't read much of what comes out in the media.

"I didn't receive this, I don't read it and I don't believe comments like these. If we win the game tomorrow, we will have the best result in World Cups in 60 years [third place]. That's the perspective. Thomas Tuchel

England faces France in the dispute for third place. The ball rolls this Saturday (18), at 6pm (Brasília time), in Miami. The English team is looking for its best World Cup campaign since 1966, when it was champion. Since then, the best results were in 1990 and 2018, with fourth place.
