SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) - The deadline for requesting a vote in transit begins this Monday (20), which authorizes voters to vote in a city other than the one where they have their registered vote. The temporary transfer request is open until August 20th.

Workers involved in organizing the elections have until August 28 to request the change. The rule covers poll workers, logistical support teams, personnel designated to test the integrity of ballot boxes and employees of penal establishments or detention facilities on duty on the day of the election.

The procedure can be done online, through the Electoral Self-Service portal on the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) website. It is also possible to make the request in person at any registry office or electoral station, upon presentation of an official document with photo.

In addition to the deadline and procedure, there are specific rules about where the vote can be counted. The request is only permitted for capitals or municipalities with more than 100,000 voters. In these locations, voters who are traveling must justify their absence on election day.

If the transfer is to another city in the same state, the voter can vote for all positions in dispute. On the other hand, if the move is to a municipality in another state, the qualification allows you to vote exclusively for the President of the Republic.

SEE THE STEP BY STEP OF HOW AND WHERE TO REQUEST

- Who can apply: any voter in good standing with the Electoral Court.- Where to apply: via Electoral Self-Service on the TSE website or in person at any registry office or electoral post.- Documentation: official identification document with photo.- Different cities per round: it is possible to indicate different municipalities for the 1st and 2nd round.- Change or cancellation: can be made until August 20th. After this date, the choice becomes final for the election.

The voter himself must make the request in person; Requests by third parties are not permitted. After the end of the elections, the voter registration card automatically returns to the polling station of origin.

SPECIFIC RULES AND DEADLINES

When requesting to vote in transit, the person is unable to vote at their original polling station. Voters who qualify to vote in transit and do not attend the chosen temporary section must justify their absence, even if they are in their home municipality on voting day.

For those outside the country, the legislation establishes that there is no way to vote in transit. However, anyone whose electoral domicile is registered in the Foreign Electoral Zone and is in Brazil during voting days can request temporary authorization to vote in the national territory, restricted to the position of president.

People with disabilities or reduced mobility, indigenous people, quilombolas, traditional communities, rural settlers and homeless people can also request transfer to accessible sections or those closer to where they live and travel. This allows them to vote for all positions.

There are also specific cases: pre-trial detainees, teenagers in detention units, military personnel, security agents and members of the Public Ministry and Electoral Justice on duty. For these groups, the forms and lists are sent by the responsible bodies.

WHERE TO CONSULT LOCATIONS AND ASK QUESTIONS

Voting in transit is only aimed at voters with regular status on the electoral register - anyone whose registration is canceled or suspended is not entitled to the benefit.

The list of polling places adapted for voting in transit is updated on the websites of the TREs (Regional Electoral Courts).

Detailed information can be consulted on the TSE portal or directly at the electoral registry in each region. The general rules of the modality are set out in articles 30 to 46 of TSE Resolution No. 23,751/2026.
